Police: Father tried to kill daughter in New Rochelle

Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide attempt near the New Rochelle train station today involving a father and his daughter.

Police say the gunfire erupted on Memorial Highway across the street from the Metro-North station at around 8 a.m.

They say they arrived to find two people shot: Alfred Monegro, 61, of Manhattan, and his 34-year-old daughter, Miosotis Monegro, of New Rochelle.

Cops say the daughter was leaving for work when the father walked up to her and shot her in the face. The father then pointed the handgun at his mouth and shot himself.

Police say the father died, but his daughter survived. She was taken to Sound Shore Medical Center, and was listed in critical condition with a bullet wound to the neck.

The shooting shocked people who frequent downtown New Rochelle.

"It's a safe neighborhood. We work here, we have family here," says Julia Aduia, of Eastchester.
