New York Medical College hopes to expand
New York Medical College may turn into an incubator for the next generation of bio-technology experts.
While the school in Valhalla is already one of the nation's largest private medical schools, many students have to go out of state for hands on training.
Sen. Chuck Schumer toured the school yesterday, before announcing his support for a proposal to help fund expansion plans there.
Schumer's plan would help keep talented students in the area, create jobs at the college and boost the area's growing technical industry.
The proposal to use the Medical College campus for training has the backing of major local biotech firms.
Companies like Regeneron, Pfizer and others, are working with the Hudson Valley Development Corporation to build and equip the facility.
They hope Schumer's support will help win $750,000 in federal funds.
