Dog rescued after running loose on Tappan Zee Bridge

A dog that got loose on the Tappan Zee Bridge yesterday is recovering after dodging traffic.

Thumper is doing OK thanks to two bridge workers who found the pooch.

It started when Thumper's truck-driving owner stopped just past the toll booths in Tarrytown to get a receipt. The dog then took off out the open door, only to find himself under assault by rush hour traffic on the Tappan Zee.

The 2-year-old, 65-pound dog was later discovered by the two bridge workers huddled in a gutter.

Thumper was suffering from cuts and skin burns, and was treated at the Hi-Tor and Pomona animal shelters.
