Residents flee early morning fire in Mamaroneck

Firefighters battled an early morning fire today in the basement of a home in the Village of Mamaroneck.

The fire ignited at around 6 a.m. at a home on Oakhurst Road near Shore Acres Drive.

Officials tell News 12 that the owners of the home smelled smoke and quickly got themselves and their pets out of the home.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames billowing out of the corner of the basement.

Emergency crews were able to put the fire out quickly and were able to contain the damage to the bottom floor.

There is no word yet on exactly what caused the fire, but no one was injured. Investigators say the fire is not being considered suspicious.
