Westchester residents lace up sneakers to help special needs kids

Hundreds of people turned out in White Plains to lace up for a good cause yesterday.

The eighth annual "For the Children" Walk-a-thon and Fall Festival was held this weekend at Saxon Woods Park in White Plains.

The fundraiser raises money for the John A. Coleman School and the Children's Rehabilitation Center.

The facilities provide special education programs and services for special needs children.

Organizers say with budgets tight, every bit of money raised makes a difference. Last year's event raised $45,000 and participants expect to surpass that amount this year.
