Bag of onions put on eBay for $150,000

A bag of onions from a farm in Orange County will cost you $150,000 on eBay.

Local farmer Chris Pawelski is trying to sell the onions to help save his Pine Island family from losing their business for good. Pawelski says he is roughly $200,000 in debt and that is not counting living expenses, only crop production expenses. His fields, like several others in the Black Dirt Region of the Hudson Valley, looked like lakes after Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. Forty-eight of his 51 acres of onions were destroyed.

The eBay ad says, "Buy this 50-pound bag of yellow cooking onions and save this fourth generation family farm." For those who think $150,000 is too much for a bag of onions, Pawleski placed another ad this week saying you can get four onions seeds for $15. Pawleski is hoping that an "Oprah or Donald Trump-type" will see the ad and come to his rescue.

The farmer says even if he doesn't sell the bag of onions, he hopes to raise awareness about the dire situation all farmers in the Black Dirt Region.
