School shocked, saddened over deaths of Cross River siblings

Grief counselors were brought to Lewisboro Elementary School today to help children cope with the horrific deaths of two classmates.

Police say Molly Friedlander, 10, and her 8-year-old brother, Gregory, were killed by their father in a murder-suicide rampage that also left their mother dead. Police say their father, Sam Friedlander, then shot himself to death in the basement of the family's Cross River home.

In a statement, Katonah-Lewisboro School Superintendent Dr. Paul Kreutzer wrote, "We are extremely saddened by the tragic loss of these two students, and we wish to extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the students' family and friends during this difficult time."

The Westchester County Department of Mental Health has set up a special hotline for families who need help dealing with tragedy. The number is 914-995-5236. Police and town officials discuss murder-suicide in Cross River
