Mount Vernon Democratic Committee endorses Davis for mayor

The Mount Vernon Democratic Committee has formally endorsed former Mayor Ernie Davis for the Mount Vernon mayoral election next month.

Davis beat out three other candidates, including current Mayor Clinton Young, in a Democratic primary last month.

City Comptroller Maureen Walker, who was also defeated in the primary by Davis, is now running on the Conservative Party line against him in the general election.

Davis and the Democrats have branded Walker as a "Tea Party Conservative" while Walker says that Davis himself ran on the Conservative Party line four years ago for the same job.

Voters will go to the polls to decide on the next mayor on Nov. 8.
