Consumer Reports turns 75
For the past 75 years, Consumer Reports has been testing products to help consumers make informed shopping choices. To mark the milestone, News 12 Westchester was invited to tour its labs in Yonkers.
Every year in their Truman Avenue building, more than 3,000 products are put to the test by Consumer Reports. The not-for-profit organization moved its labs to Yonkers 15 years ago from New Rochelle and currently employs 645 people nationwide, with most of them working in Yonkers.
"It is true that products that have been around for a long time tend to get better, but there are always new products coming out," says Consumer Reports Magazine Editor in Chief Kim Kleaman, about the need for a consumer watchdog.
