Meeting on Playland brawl to be held next week

Westchester County lawmakers, the County Parks Commission and the Public Safety Committee plan to hold a joint meeting next week to discuss the brawl at Rye Playland.

On Tuesday, a long-standing rule prohibiting head gear on rides sparked a fight between Muslim women and park workers. According to park officials, the women were told they couldn't ride unless they removed their head scarves.

In an attempt to break up the brawl, police got involved. As a result, two park rangers were hurt and 15 people were arrested.

At the Manhattan offices of the Council of American Islamic Relations, Zead Ramadan has been trying to deal with the fallout from this week?s incident. Ramadan says even though emails were exchanged with organizers of the post-Ramadan celebrations there, explaining the rule, there was an apparent breakdown in communication.
