Federal aid approved for Irene victims

Federal disaster aid has been approved for homeowners and renters who suffered Hurricane Irene damage.

Officials say about 14,000 people are still without power throughout the Hudson Valley, with the most outages remaining in northern Westchester. Crews are still working around the clock, with help being called in from as far away as Mississippi.

In Rockland, devastated residents are also facing the reality that their homes could be demolished due to the storm.
