Muslim group blasts Playland officials, police after melee
The Muslim group involved in a brawl at Rye Playland earlier this week is blasting park officials and Westchester County police for how the situation was handled.
According to the Muslim American Society of New York, cops used excessive force when a fight broke out over women wearing religious head scarves on rides. It says officials not only overreacted, but were insensitive in dealing with people of other ethnicities.
Westchester Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth insists his officers' show of force, including 50 squad cars, riot gear and K-9 units, were all necessary considering there were more than 100 angry patrons involved.
Police arrested 15 people as a result of the fight.
