Students head back to school in Bedford

For many students in the Hudson Valley, summer is unofficially over and today marks the first day of school.

Some schools had to work around problems caused by Tropical Storm Irene, but all systems were go for the Bedford district.

At Fox Lane Middle School in Bedford, district Superintendent Dr. Jere Hochman says there was some concern last week that the first day would be delayed after Irene and other storms caused massive power outages in the region. But the district lucked out when all power was restored late last week.

Dr. Hochman says there is some concern about next year's budget situation, but for now, the teachers are focused on their students and getting the year started right.
