Lawyer challenges Yorktown town supervisor in GOP primary

A former Yorktown town attorney is getting ready to face off against incumbent Town Supervisor Susan Siegel, a fellow Republican, in a primary vote set for next week. Michael Grace, a trial lawyer who lives and works in Yorktown, says it's time to change the system. According to Grace, the current town supervisor has inherited and perpetuated a system in which excessive town regulations stifle any chance of commercial redevelopment vital to the town's future."The town's been going in the wrong direction for a lot of years," Grace says. Siegel, who was first elected in November 2009 and began her term in January 2010, listed at least eight commercial deals in various planning stages, including a Costco set to be built in town. However, she says there has to be a balance between the need for commercial re-development and proper regulation. Both candidates agree that more property taxes paid by businesses can help ease the tax burden on the average homeowner.
