Ex-state Sen. Leibell staffer pleads guilty in federal court

The longtime chief of staff to disgraced former state Senator Vincent Leibell plead guilty to obstruction of justice charges in federal court today.

Federal prosecutors say Ray Maguire had convinced a contractor to create phony invoices and lie to a grand jury about deeply discounted construction costs on Leibell's $2 million Putnam County home.

Maguire had worked with Leibell for more than a decade before the senator was convicted of taking kickbacks from crooked attorneys. Leibell is now serving 21 months in prison.
