Police probe ex-con's death initially ruled a suicide

A Yonkers businessman with a criminal past was found shot to death in his swimming pool over a week ago in what appeared to be a suicide, but his family says he might have been targeted. Robert Van Zandt, Jr. may have had ties to the Bonnano crime family and served time in prison, but his relatives and friends say he loved his life and dispute initial claims that he may have killed himself. Van Zandt was reportedly once the partner of convicted murderer and former Bonanno crime family boss Vinny Basciano, and he had been convicted of fraud. Yonkers police are investigating the case and say they are not ruling anything out.
