Lesnick concedes in Yonkers mayoral primary race

City Council President Chuck Lesnick has conceded in the Democratic primary race for Yonkers mayor.

Lesnick was one of three candidates who ran in the Democratic primary. Assemblyman Mike Spano declared victory over Lesnick and Robert Flowers on Tuesday night. Despite being behind by about 1,000 votes on primary night, Lesnick refused to give up the fight saying he wanted to wait until all the ballots were counted.

Now Lesnick agrees that Spano is the primary winner and vows he will support Spano come November. "I'm a Democrat, I'm going to be supporting the Democratic ticket, but it's also very important for me to make sure that the council remains Democratic."

Spano will face off against Republican City Councilman John Murtagh in November's general election. Current mayor Republican Phil Amicone can not seek re-election because of term limits.
