Ex-Mayor Davis expected to claim win in Mt. Vernon mayoral primary

The Westchester County Board of Elections is still counting votes in the Mount Vernon Democratic mayoral primary, but former Mayor Ernie Davis appears to have won.

Davis currently leads Comptroller Maureen Walker by less than 100 votes. No Republicans are running in the race, thus the winner of the primary is virtually guaranteed to win the general election.

Officials say absentee and emergency ballots still have to be counted and the voting machines will be recanvassed as well.

Board of Elections officials say all of this could take at least another week or possibly more, so Mount Vernon residents will have to wait a while longer before a winner can be officially declared.
