Car ban considered for scenic overlook of Hudson River
A car ban is being considered in the village of Piermont for a local road with one of the best scenic overlooks of the Hudson River.
The Piermont Village Board wants to reduce the number of cars on Ferry Road, a one-mile stretch, especially cars from out of town.
The road is enjoyed by bicyclists, pedestrians and fishermen. But on the weekends it turns into a giant parking lot, with cars lined up on either side of the road.
Many visitors understand the possible ban, and say that the cars can make it dangerous for pedestrians.
Under the proposed plan, only people fishing, crabbing or observing wildlife would be allowed to bring their vehicles on to the pier, if they pay a permit fee.
