Ex-Yonkers police officer gets jail time, probation for assault

A former Yonkers police officer has been sentenced to weekends in jail for two months after admitting to beating up two people at a local bar and then trying to cover it up.

Investigators say last year, Raul Ramirez was on duty, working overnights in Yonkers, when his brother got into a fight at the Las Palmas Bar on Yonkers Avenue.

The brother called Ramirez to respond. Investigators say that's when Ramirez assaulted two people, arresting one of them and even filing a false police report of the whole thing.

Ramirez resigned from the force.

He was also sentenced to five years probation and will have to pay for the victims' medical bills.
