Yorktown considers change in snow removal policy

It may be summer, but Yorktown is already thinking of snow. Thanks to last winter's multiple bad snowstorms, many residents began to complain about Yorktown's sidewalk snow removal policy.

The policy states that residents must clear their sidewalks 24 hours after a big snowfall or they could face a possible fine. These complaints led the town board to begin considering a change that would exempt certain sidewalks from the policy.

Town Board members want to create a map that would clearly label the sidewalks that need to be cleared within a certain time frame with the town highway department taking over the rest.

The Town Board is expected to have a work session to map out its snow removal plan next week.
