Board aims to stop Saw Mill River flooding

It's something that homeowners, businesses and drivers who travel the parkway along the Saw Mill River are all too familiar with: flooding.

Heavy rains often send water spilling over the riverbanks, snarling traffic and creating a wet mess for local residents.

County Legislator Mary Jane Shimsky is hoping to hold the water back. She recently convened an advisory board to review the many studies that have been done on the river and to explore options for lessening the flooding's impact. Residents say they're hopeful but wary, with money tight for major projects.Heavy rains leave local roadways underwaterFlooded roads snarl traffic, frustrate drivers
