Bill seeks to stop land lease at Montrose VA facility

Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-Mount Kisco) is making a push to stop the Department of Veterans Affairs from leasing much of the land at its Montrose facility, a project that has raised concerns among local veterans.

Today, Hayworth spoke to dozens of veterans at Buchanan Village Hall and asked them to support her new bill, known as the Hudson Valley Health Care Campus Protection Act.

The congresswoman says the legislation was written to protect the VA facility in Montrose from a plan to lease 172 out of the 184 cares at the site for use in private development.

The Montrose hospital is recognized for its post-traumatic stress and brain injury programs. Hayworth says with casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan coming in, now is not the time to reduce the ability to care for them.

Hayworth's bill was introduced earlier this week and must now go through the legislative process.
