Peekskill parents accused of attacking child back in court

The Peekskill parents accused of attacking a 10-year-old girl at a playground last week were back in court today.

Authorities say Latena Fitzgerald and Samuel Randolph are facing charges for holding down the young girl while their twin 7-year-olds beat her. Their attorney, Scot Hersch, says his clients were only trying to protect their own children.

The couple presented a signed petition claiming that the girl had bullied their children repeatedly in the past. The document has 75 signatures from people who say that they are aware of prior bullying incidents involving the children.

The district attorney is re-evaluating the case to see if it should go to trial. Fitzgerald and Randolph are due back in court again on Sept. 26.
