State: Test scores down in Yonkers

New numbers from the state show students are not making the grade in Yonkers when it comes to English and math.

Only 37 percent of third- through eighth-graders passed the state's English exam. Last year, it was about 39 percent, according to the report.

About 40 percent passed the math exam. Last year, the numbers were better as well

Statewide, more than half the students from third to eighth grade were above the state average in English and 63 percent in math.

The Yonkers school district says layoffs over the years make it difficult for improvement.
