Police make quick arrests in New Rochelle bank robbery

Police say they have arrested three people in connection to a bank robbery at Webster Bank on River Street in New Rochelle today.

Officials say bank employees and customers were held at gunpoint by one robber, while another scooped up an undetermined amount of money from tellers. They say the suspects got away in a blue SUV, with a third person behind the wheel.

Police say they followed the vehicle onto I-95 and were able to arrest the suspects as they tried to exit onto the Hutchinson River Parkway.

I-95 was shut down after the arrests so that officers could search for a gun that they say was thrown from the SUV. The weapon was found, after it had apparently been run over by passing traffic.

The FBI has also been called in to the case and the three people arrested could face federal charges.
