Mount Vernon residents fed up with violence in wake of shootings

Mount Vernon residents say they are concerned about the city's violence after another shooting left a man hospitalized last night. Police say the incident happened on South 15th Avenue at around 9 p.m. They have confirmed that the victim is 18 years old and was shot in the foot. Witnesses say a car drove up to an apartment complex and someone started firing. Police are still searching for the person responsible for killing Gloria Nartey, 27, Monday night. They say Nartey was walking home from a grocery store when she was shot in the head near South 12th Avenue. "You can't even let your kids come outside and play in front of the building now because of the stuff that's going on," one resident said. "When it gets dark, everybody's got to go inside." No arrests have been made in either shooting, which police say are unrelated.
