Verizon strike puts Yonkers residents on hold

Dozens of residents in a Yonkers residential building have been without phone service for five days due to the ongoing strike by Verizon union workers.

Residents at 2 Sunnyside Dr. have been told that the main switch to their building is broken and that Verizon doesn't have the manpower to fix it due to the strike. Many who live in the building are elderly or disabled and don't have cell phones.

The outage has also affected several nearby doctor offices. Verizon says it will be assigning a manager to the medical building by tomorrow morning and that a crew is already on the scene at the apartment complex.
