Soldier from Yonkers killed in Afghanistan

A Yonkers man was among five soldiers killed in Afghanistan last week, just one day before he was scheduled to return home.

Army Sgt. Edward Frank II, 26, died Thursday after a roadside bomb exploded in Kandahar near the Humvee his unit was riding in, according to officials.

Flags on buildings across the city, including Yonkers City Hall and the Yonkers downtown war memorial, are now flying at half-staff in memory of the soldiers.

Frank leaves behind a wife, Selena, and their three small children. He is the 12th soldier from Westchester County to be killed fighting in Afghanistan or Iraq.
