School administrators face back-to-school budget crisis

Yonkers principals back from summer break return to numerous challenges following recent budget cuts.

The district faces a new school year with a smaller support staff and larger class sizes. More than 300 teachers in the district have been laid off, though approximately 80 of them may be rehired for a reduced pre-kindergarten program.

Currently, there is no additional funding expected for the Yonkers public school system. Administrators are hoping teachers will take a salary freeze and support from elected leaders in Albany.
