Peekskill DPW workers protest for contracts

Peekskill Department of Public Works (DPW) employees took to the streets outside City Hall tonight after they say demands for new contracts reached an impasse.

Dozens of union members claimed communication between themselves and the city has broken down. Union representatives say sanitation, water, parks, firefighter and clerical workers have been working without a contract for almost two years.

The demonstration was held during a planned City Council meeting.

Mayor Mary Foster says the communication breakdown was more about the day to day operations between the city and its workers than about contract talks.
