Funeral held for Larchmont EMT

Hundreds gathered at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Pelham today to say goodbye to an EMT who dedicated his short life to helping others in his community.

Justin Acocella, 29, died Saturday from chronic lung disease while waiting for a transplant. Acocella became a volunteer EMT as a teenager in Mamaroneck, and spent the last six years with the Larchmont Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Fellow EMTs and friends remembered Acocella as a very giving and caring person.

"Anything he could do for anybody, he would do, and he definitely lived his life giving to others," said his childhood friend Jason Capalbo.

Acocella's family and friends are urging the public to become organ donors in his honor.
