Police: Fire had nothing to do with Pomona victim's death

Investigators say they believe the fatal fire at the Palisades Gardens apartment complex in Pomona yesterday may have been deliberately set to cover up the man's murder.

Police say 37-year-old Jason Ognenoff's body was found covered with a sheet on the floor near his bedroom, where the fire was set. An autopsy is being performed, but police say he was stabbed and the fire seems to have nothing to do with his cause of death.

Charles Miller, Havestraw's police chief, says there didn't appear to be any signs of a struggle or of forced entry into the apartment. No arrests have been made, though Miller said they're trying to track down Ognenoff's ex-girlfriends to see if they can provide them with any information.

Meanwhile, residents of the apartment complex have been told they can move back in, though many are choosing not to since there's still no water or gas.
