Democratic mayoral candidates square off in Mt. Vernon

Four Democratic candidates hoping to be Mount Vernon's next mayor squared off in a debate last night ahead of the September primary.

Incumbent Mayor Clinton Young (D-Mount Vernon) is facing off against three opponents in the primary, Comptroller Maureen Walker, Councilman Yuhanna Edwards and former Mayor Ernest Davis.

The group engaged in a spirited debate on many issues the city is facing, including a lack of jobs, crime and economic development.

The public forum was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and the Fleetwood Neighborhood Association.
