NY/NJ Port Authority board approves toll, fare hikes

A new deal approved by the Port Authority today means tolls are going up on its bridges, tunnels and trains.

Starting next month, tolls will be raised $1.50 for E-ZPass users and $2 for anyone paying cash at all Port Authority crossings, including the George Washington Bridge and the Lincoln and Holland tunnels.

According to the plan, tolls will also rise over the next few years, meaning some drivers will pay as much as $14.50 by 2015.

While the toll on the Tappan Zee Bridge won't be increased, many residents say they worry traffic will soon increase since it will be cheaper than the George Washington Bridge.
