Candidates in race for Yonkers mayor face off at public forum

All but two candidates in the race for Yonkers mayor showed up last night to face off at a public forum sponsored by Westchester's Black Women's Political Caucus and the YWCA.

All three Democratic challengers -- Assemblyman Mike Spano, City Council President Chuck Lesnick and community activist Robert Flower -- were there, as was Republican Councilman John Murtaugh. But fellow Republicans Carlo Calvi and Richard Martinelli were no-shows.

Organizers of the debate say they wanted to provide a forum for the candidates to focus on just the issues. The big issues of the night included the budget, property taxes, public safety and the use of city owned-cars.
