Yonkers pre-K program scaled back

Even though pre-K in Yonkers was saved during the budget crisis, parents are still faced with some changes for the upcoming year.

The district sent letters out to parents to inform them that pre-K will now only be a half day. In addition, pre-K kids will return to school on Sept. 19 even though the rest of the district goes back on Sept. 6. There will also be a week of orientation for parents and students the week of Sept. 12.

In order to help parents adjust to the new half-day classes, the district is looking into opening up child care centers within the schools. The day care program is not expected to begin until sometime in November.
