Mandatory evacuation ordered for Clunie Ave.

As the Saw Mill River continues to crest, Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone has ordered a mandatory evacuation for the people who live along Clunie Avenue. Several of the street's residents have reported as much as 5 to 6 feet of water in their basements.

Yonkers firefighters have spent the afternoon going door-to-door telling people to leave but many are not taking those warnings seriously.

"I don't want to leave my house," said Judith Almonte, a resident of Clunie Avenue. "We're waiting still the last minute."

Officials can not physically force people to leave their homes but say that the water will continue to rise throughout the next couple of days.
