Flooded roadways plague Yonkers after Hurricane Irene

Many roadways across Westchester County have been closed due to flooding from Hurricane Irene.

In Yonkers, Nepperhan Avenue is closed because of floodwaters that overflowed from the Saw Mill River. County crews are working feverishly to pump the water back into the river and say they hope the road will be reopened sometime today.

Homeowners in the area say they have suffered thousands of dollars worth of damage because of the flooding.

Commuters say it has also been difficult to navigate around the city and some say it was almost impossible to get to work this morning.

Officials still say safety is a concern and warn residents not to go out this evening unless they absolutely have to.
