Playland riot breaks out over Muslim head coverings

Police say they arrested 15 people at Rye Playland yesterday after a group of Muslim women were prohibited from certain rides. According to cell phone video, a brawl broke out between police and the Muslim visitors after they were asked to remove their religious head coverings for safety purposes. "Head gear means anything from a baseball cap to any sort of religious piece that somebody may be wearing," Deputy Parks Commissioner Peter Tartaglia said. "They're not allowed on various rides for safety reasons." The women came to the park with other members of the Muslim American Society of New York to celebrate the end of Ramadan. The video shows the fight breaking out between four or five of the visitors. Two park rangers were injured and taken to the hospital. Backup police officers eventually arrived on the scene, some wearing riot gear.Officials: 15 arrested after fight at Rye Playland
