Bill allowing sale of small fireworks awaits Cuomo's signature

Sparklers and other small fireworks could become legal to sell in New York State by this time next year.

The legalization of such fireworks is now in the hands of Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.). State lawmakers recently approved legislation that would allow the sale of items such as sparklers and fountains.

State Sen. Greg Ball (R-N.Y.) says the bill is a step in the right direction. He says legally selling small fireworks in New York will bring in more tax revenue that usually goes to other nearby states.

The fireworks legislation is not expected to be on Cuomo's desk until next month. He hasn't said yet if he will sign it.
