Man arrested for allegedly hijacking car in Ramapo

A Spring Valley man has been arrested after he allegedly hijacked another man's car from a Ramapo service station and took it on a drunken joy ride early Sunday morning.

According to police, Edwin Diaz Perez knocked down a 52-year-old man who was refilling the air in his car's tires at Tyler's Automotive Service on North Main and then jumped into his car. Police say Perez, 20, then crashed into a parked vehicle as he attempted to drive off. He was apprehended by police as he tried to flee the scene on foot.

Police say Perez was drunk. He now faces three felony charges, including grand larceny.
