Fan who caught Jeter's 3,000th hit speaks out

Yesterday will be a day never forgotten for Derek Jeter and baseball fans everywhere, but for one lucky fan, it was extra special.

Christian Lopez, 23, of Highland Mills, was the lucky fan who caught Jeter's 3,000th hit.

Lopez, a cell phone customer service representative, says he got the tickets as a birthday present from his girlfriend.

"It felt like a hundred people were trying to jump on me and I wasn't giving up that ball for nothing," said Lopez.

After catching the ball, security whisked him and his father, Raul Lopez, away for their safety.

Lopez says security asked him what he wanted to do with the ball and he said he wanted to return the ball to Jeter.

In return, the Yankees gave Lopez four suite tickets for the remainder of the season along with lots of Yankees memorabilia and merchandise.
