Dangerously hot weather hits the Hudson Valley

A heat advisory was issued today for the Hudson Valley, with temperatures reaching well into the 90s this afternoon.

Cooling centers were opened in several communities today because of the dangerous temperatures.

The air-conditioned Doyle Senior Center in New Rochelle was one place for people to get relief, and the seniors who were there were in no rush to leave.

Health officials say the people most vulnerable to the heat are children and the elderly.

However, they say that anyone who has to be outside in the heat should drink plenty of water and use sunscreen.
