The woman, Alfa Choice, 29, died instantly after plunging 175 feet.

Christopher Shears, 44, has been moved from Nyack Hospital to Westchester Medical Center in Vahalla and is in critical condition.

Choice and Shears, originally from the Bronx, lived in Ithaca, NY.

An eyewitness, Keith Shearn, was first on the scene and says he tried to talk the couple out of jumping.

"I said are you sure you want to do this? And he just said, 'Yup, yup,' " Shearn says. "She lovingly held his hand, climbed up on the hood of the Tahoe, never letting go of his hand. It was almost like they rehearsed it."

Printed sources say Choice had more than $10,000 in liens against her and might have belonged to a cult. It's unclear whether either factored into the decision to jump.Witness: Couple who jumped off Tappan Zee had suicide pactPolice: Suicide pact likely for Tappan Zee jumpers
