Police: Cousins come to blows over Facebook fight

Police say a dispute that started on Facebook between two cousins resulted in a violent confrontation involving a hammer in New City last night.

Investigators say they arrived at West Clarkstown Road at around 7 p.m. to find Niqualla Grant and Samantha Laidley outside on the porch. Police say Grant had a hammer resting at her feet.

According to police, the two cousins initially had a verbal dispute over Facebook comments that later turned physical, with the women pulling each other's hair, punching, scratching, and even biting each other.

As the incident progressed, police say Grant retrieved a hammer, which she attempted to use as a weapon to strike Laidley. None of the women sustained serious injuries.

Grant was charged with second-degree attempted assault, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Laidley was charged with third-degree assault.
