Nyack appoints special marriage officer
The village of Nyack is appointing a special marriage officer to handle the expected demand for weddings once the state's new same-sex marriage law goes into effect.
In less than 10 days, thousands of same-sex couples from across the country are expected to come to the Empire State to get married.
New York is now the sixth state where gay couples can wed and by far, the biggest one.
Census figures show a dramatic increase of gay couples in the Hudson Valley in the past decade as many same-sex partners have moved out of New York City to the suburbs to raise children.
