Cool air back on at Mount Vernon apartment building

Twenty-five families who live in an apartment building on Center Street in Mount Vernon are cooling off again after enduring a hot afternoon without electricity.

The landlord, Augie Cocazza, said the power had to be turned off while the building's decades-old electrical system was upgraded. He said the work was scheduled weeks ago and could not be postponed because the wires could have burned, causing even more problems.

Tenants were left without air conditioning or fans in the middle of the heat wave for three hours while the electricians finished repairs. They said it was frustrating because they were only informed about the situation last night.
