Store owner has heart attack after chasing suspected shoplifters

The owner of the Ace Gift Shop in Yonkers is hospitalized today after suffering a heart attack while chasing down suspected shoplifters.

Cops say the owner's son confronted a teen within the shop, who was suspected of stealing a toy. A friend of the alleged shoplifter offered to pay for the toy, but before he did, both men bolted with the stolen goods.

The 60-year-old shop owner, who is known as Mr. Lee, chased down both suspects and then had the heart attack. Cops say after he fell, his face turned blue and he was rushed to the hospital.

Friends and customers of the Yonkers business gathered outside the Palisades Avenue store this morning to pray for his speedy recovery. Currently, Mr. Lee is in intensive care at Montefiore Medical Center in The Bronx, and the suspect remains on the loose.
