Peekskill man drowns in North Salem lake

Officials say a Peekskill man drowned in a lake in North Salem last night.

Police say Louis Alberto Guaman, 45, was visiting friends in northern Westchester when they decided to cool off in Lake Hawthorne.

They say that at about 6 p.m., Guaman was submerged for about 10 minutes. He was taken from the scene by ambulance, but was pronounced dead a short time later at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco.

Investigators say they have interviewed witnesses and the incident is not believed to be suspicious.

State police investigators tell News 12 they are now waiting for the results of an autopsy that is being conducted by the Westchester County Medical Examiner?s Office.
